About the mentors

Unlike many consultants who "specialize" in retail, we are successful retailers. Our mentors have, between them, over 50 years of retail experiences with world-class retailers including Bose Corporation, The Sharper Image, Dayton's.  They have also owned their own stores.

Doug Fleener....

...has managed, coached, and mentored hundreds of retailers of all types. As one participant said, "Doug's approach is unique in that he does not come at you with a typical "canned" approach. He will give you fresh ideas to improve your business.

Doug is the former director of retail for Bose Corporation and has also owned and operated his own specialty stores. Doug is president of Dynamic Experiences Group, LLC, a retail and customer experience consultancy that works with retailers of all sizes. He speaks frequently around the world about retail issues and the customer experience.

He is the author of the book The Profitable Retailer: 56 surprisingly simple and effective lessons to boost your sales and profits. His insights have been covered in leading business media including The New York Times, Entrepreneur, Inc., and Shopping Centers Today.

Doug lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two daughters, where in his free time he barbecues while listening to Jimmy Buffet music.

Nancy Proman....

...brings a wealth of practical knowledge for the small retailer including buying, merchandising, and advertising.  More important, she's a good coach and a good mentor.

As a dress and sportswear buyer for Dayton’s Department Stores (now Macy’s), Nancy regularly traveled to New York and also worked on import product development programs in Asia. She left the corporate life and opened her own small chain of maternity clothing stores. Nancy found success as an independent retailer.  She was profitable and loved what she did.  Nancy can help you do the same.

Nancy resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband. She has a married daughter and adult son who live out of state. Nancy is a member of Fashion Group International, and serves on the board of a local non-profit. For fun, Nancy enjoys yoga, bicycling, gardening, gourmet cooking, and travel.
